THE CARBON FINGERPRINT
Troax is constantly trying to reduce the carbon footprint, but not at the expense of safety. It’s not about choosing one over the other, it’s about choosing what’s perfect for you. There’s no universal truth. Your reality is as unique as a fingerprint and your choices highly affect the safety level as well as the carbon footprint. By providing CO2 emissions calculations that take both safety and sustainability into consideration, we’re helping you to compare products and systems from a CO2 perspective. With our help, you can make more thoughtful decisions. You can count on Troax – we’ve done the math.
FOCUS ON THE GREY AREAS
Grey and black colours are better from a climate and sustainability perspective. Compared to yellow and other vibrant colours, grey and black require less coats of colour, resulting in more environmentally friendly surfaces.
Moreover, grey is also the most common Troax colour, making it more efficient in our production process. Grey is our standard colour, but our products can be delivered in your colours of choice to match your company profile.
MAKE CONSCIOUS CHOICES IN DRAWIT
Troax Drawit allows you to place our machine guarding products onto a drawing surface in your browser. All products and colours that are better from an environmental point of view are highlighted with green leaves. Hence, Troax Drawit isn’t only a powerful and user-friendly configuration tool, it’s also allowing you to make better and more conscious choices. Layout tools like Troax Drawit, combined with our products, create smarter solutions.

COMPLETING THE CIRCLE
Troax is part of the global circular economy, but we can’t complete the circle by ourselves. Our products are designed to be used on an everyday basis for a long period of time. They can also be recycled. Unfortunately, we have no control of the recycling process, but we encourage all customers to recycle at the end of the product life cycle. This is an important issue to address when delivering products to our customers around the world. Our products can also be reused for originally intended purposes, given that they’re not damaged in any way.
GLOBAL AND LOCAL
The UN agenda for sustainable development, provides a good blueprint for our ambitions, now and beyond 2030. In addition to multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we have pinpointed three priority focus areas for our sustainability efforts. All focus areas are central to us and for our activities with our stakeholders. Furthermore, we also take pride in our core values in everyday operations and in a long-term perspective. We’ll continue to develop our internal sustainability program in the years to come by educating the organisation and setting new goals for the company. Additionally, we’ll stay present on the global arena, ensuring a reduced number of transports from our factories to our customers. Purchasing of steel and transports will continue to be two of our most important key issues.
99 % RECYCLABLE STEEL
Our steel products are 99% recyclable. At the end of the product life cycle, our products can be put back into circulation and become new steel products. Our products are also easy to assemble, disassemble, and sort, making the recycling process smoother and more energy efficient. Just like many other metals, steel can be recycled without any degradation to its properties. Due to the inherent value of steel, the recycling process is quite complex. The recycling rate also differs depending on market, industry, and country. Unfortunately, Troax has no control of this process, but we encourage recycling of our products and reuse, if possible. Our panels are always painted in standard or custom colours to match specific profiles. That’s why our products aren’t 100% recyclable.
WE WANT MORE RECYCLED STEEL
When you’re buying a steel product, you’re also buying a recyclable product, but not necessarily a product made of recycled steel. Preferably, we would use only recycled steel instead of virgin materials, but reality isn’t that simple. The global steel market, including steel mills around the world, dictates the availability of recycled steel. Based on the global annual consumption in all industries, the availability of recycled steel isn’t sufficient to satisfy the demand. Put simply, demand is much greater than supply. In 2023, Troax Group has used 53.6% recycled steel in pipe and wire. By 2030, our ambition is to use 80% recycled steel or alternative steel in our production.
PERFECTLY BALANCED DESIGN
All product development projects carried out by the Swedish division entail a mandatory environment analysis with the aim of identifying important environmental aspects. The analysis is a natural extension of the pre-study and the product specification, covering everything from material and production to logistics. Every single analysis follows a standardised method and protocol. A good rating means increased environmental properties. If the analysis results in a low rating on any factor, this must be emphasised and made subject to improvement measures where possible. The key is to find a perfect balance between safety and sustainability. In the end, Troax is in business to keep people safe.
STRONGER AND SAFER
In terms of results from the analyses, there are several good examples of both safer and more environmentally efficient products. An example is our Strong Fix 80X80 post. The post is part of one of our most robust and popular systems. Based on the analysis and a series of tests, we decided to optimise the construction. By reducing the thickness, we also managed to reduce the use of steel by 36%. Due to improved system properties, the new post is even safer, despite a significant material reduction. In addition, the reduction of steel makes it easier to transport and install the post. Safer for the user and smarter for the environment.
SMARTER AND SMOOTHER
Our patented system for splicing of tall posts, Smart Splice, is another great example. In short, Smart Splice replaces traditional wrap-around extension brackets, resulting in a neat and strong fit inside the post. By splicing inside the post, time is saved during logistics and installation. It also looks good. Most importantly, Smart Splice can withstand 1.600 joules.
